Pierro remains unbeaten

Lonhro's two-year-old son Pierro remained unbeaten when nosing out Epaulette, a son of Commands, in a driving finish to the G2 Todman Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill.

Having raced in third place to the home turn, Pierro swept to the lead with 200m to run before being joined then headed by Epaulette inside the final 100m. With both colts responding bravely, Pierro fought back to nose out Epaulette in the final strides, the pair pulling well clear.

Pierro has now won all three of his starts at Stakes level, commencing with the Listed Breeders’ Plate then the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes.

Both Pierro and Epaulette now rate as leading chances in the $3.5 million G1 Golden Slipper Stakes on April 7.

The Darley-bred Pierro is out of the Daylami mare Miss Right Note, who is a half-sister to Octagonal’s G1-winning son Laverock. Laverock won the G1 Gran Premio del Jockey Club in Italy as well as the G1 Prix d’Ispahan in France in 2006.

Miss Right Note foaled a sister to Pierro in 2011 before Street Cryserved the mare during the last breeding season.

Waterhouse paid $230,000 for Pierro at the 2011 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast. The catalogue for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in April will feature 27 yearlings sired by last season’s Australian champion stallion with by nine by Commands in the sale that commences April 10 in Sydney.
