Our Pretty Woman all class in winning the Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes

Three-year-old filly the latest Stakes winner for Medaglia d’Oro

Sent off as the heavy favorite, Our Pretty Woman didn’t disappoint, holding off a late bid from Intricate to win the $175,000 Monomoy Girl Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs by three-quarters of a length on Saturday, 15 June.

The Monomoy Girl victory marked the first Stakes win for the three-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly; earlier this year she was a fast-closing second to Tarifa (Bernardini) in the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks.

Our Pretty Woman broke a bit awkwardly but recovered quickly and was soon settled into a stalking position in third, just off the early pacesetters Lucky Speech and Merasol Sugar. Our Pretty Woman held her position down the backstretch and into the far turn while racing in the clear on the outside. Our Pretty Woman made her bid at the top of the lane, then took control at the three sixteenths pole. The dark bay filly pulled clear in the stretch, and comfortably held off the late bid of Intricate for the victory.

Bred in Kentucky by Woods Edge Farm and Godolphin, Our Pretty Woman was purchased by Courtlandt Farm for $900,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She is out of the winning Speightstown mare Dazzletown, and hails from the immediate family of Canadian Champion female sprinter, Roxy Gap (dam of G3 winner Café Americano, also by Medaglia d’Oro), and multiple Stakes winners Yate’s Black Cat, Special Test and Adopted Daughter.

In addition to Our Pretty Woman, Medaglia d’Oro is also the sire of Delahaye, winner of the G3 Old Forester Mint Julep Stakes at Churchill Downs and multiple 2024 Stakes winner, Spirit of St Louis. The stallion is also represented this year by Nash, winner of Hot Spring Stakes and Kallos, winner of the G2 Rubiton Stakes in Australia.
