No Cat-ching Discreet Marq at Belmont
Coming off of a G2 win last out in the Sands Point Stakes at Belmont, it was no surprise that Discreet Cat’s Discreet Marq was made the strong favorite in the one and one-sixteenth mile Eventail Stakes over the turf course, also at Belmont, on July 4th. The gray filly didn’t disappoint either posting a six-length win and her second consecutive added-money victory.
Discreet Marq didn’t have her way in the early going as Hard Spun’s Roses For Romney pressured her on the outside throughout the first half mile. After that one gave way, Discreet Marq was too far in front and was geared down as she hit the wire all by herself.
Now on the board in seven of nine career starts, including six stakes events, Discreet Marq is out of the multiple Stakes winner and Graded-placed mare To Marquet, who has also produced Stakes horses Marquet Cat and Marquet Madness. The filly was bred by Patricia Generazio in New York.
Discreet Cat is having a fantastic year in 2013 and currently the leading third crop sire in North America by stakes winners and stakes wins. He is also North America’s leading sire of two-year-olds amongst all sires. His three other Graded winners this year include last week’s G3 Bashford Manor Stakes winner Debt Ceiling now undefeated in three starts as a junvenile.
