Mshawish whisks away from field to win at Meydan
While a bit unlucky last out when running second in the G2 Al Fahadi Fort, Medaglia d'Oro’s four-year-old son Mshawish left no doubt that he was the best in the race on February 27 with an impressive win in the G2 Al Zabeel Mile over the turf course at the Dubai racing oval.
A previous Stakes winner of the Prix de Tourgeville last August, Mshawish broke very alertly out of the gate and then relaxed in second place down the backstretch and into the turn for home. With some urging by jockey Richard Hughes, he quickly pulled away from the field at the top of the stretch and held a comfortable margin at the wire.
The dark bay or born colt was bred by OTIF 2007 in Kentucky and is out of a half-sister to Stakes winners Meteorologist and Bayou Breeze, herself the dam of Stakes winner Branded.
In 2014, Medaglia d’Oro is also sire of G1 winner Lochte, who captured the Gulfstream Park Handicap earlier this month, in addition to three-year-old colt Indianapolis, victorious in the San Pedro Stakes in January. Nine other career G1 winners, include Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra as well as Violence, one of no fewer than nine sons already standing at stud around the world.
Medaglia d’Oro’s stud fee is $100,000, live foal, stands and nurses.
