Following an impressive win last month over G1 winner Persian King in the Prix de Montretout at Chantilly in France, Medaglia d’Oro’s Magny Cours doubled his career number of Black type wins on July 5th in the Gala Stakes at Sandown Park in England. The lightly-raced five-year-old has now won or placed in six of seven career starts which includes a second in the G3 Prix Exbury.
In the 10-furlong Gala Stakes, Magny Cours settled into the second spot with stablemate Spotify alongside through the first eight and one-half furlongs. He picked up the pace and inched clear in the three sixteenths to hold off the runner-up by a neck.
Magny Cours, bred by owner Godolphin in Kentucky, is out of the G1 winner Indy Five Hundred who has also produced Listed winner Albert Park (by Street Sense) and G2-placed Ecliptic. Magny Cours half-sister Magical Crown is the dam of Listed winner Good Effort. Indy Five Hundred is also a half to multiple Graded winner Delta Princess, dam of G1 winners Royal Delta (twice Champion), Delta Prince and Crown Queen.
Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 141 lifetime Stakes winners, 25 G1 winners, including 2019 high-level winners Cambier Parc and Higher Power, second in the G1 Hollywood Gold Cup on June 6th in his 2020 debut.
