Medaglia d’Oro, who sired his fourth G1 winner just five days ago when Warrior’s Reward swept to victory in the Carter, notched his sixth individual Stakes winner of the year on Wednesday when his four-year-old daughter Payton d’Oro took the $100,000 Bayakoa at Oaklawn Park.
Settled in second position, Payton d’Oro loomed up on the outside entering the turn and battled superbly down the stretch to pass long-time leader Distinctive Dixie and win by half a length. The pair were over four lengths clear of third-placed filly Punta Ballena.
This was Payton d’Oro’s fourth Stakes win, with her best win to date coming in the G2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes last year. Trainer Cindy Jones indicated she would now head to Delaware Park to aim for further Stakes success on the East Coast.
Bred by T/C Stable and James Carter, she is out of the winning Jade Hunter mare Jealous And Jaded, a daughter of G3 winner and G1-placed Cosmic Tiger.
Despite having just three crops of racing age, Medaglia d’Oro has already recorded no fewer than 16 individual Stakes winners and a further 12 Stakes performers. This year, in addition to Warrior’s Reward, Gabby’s Golden Gal has also excelled at the highest level this year, winning her second G1 when taking the Santa Monica Handicap back in January.
