A stakes winner at one mile, at one and one-sixteenth miles, and now at one and one-eighth miles. Medaglia d’Oro’s five-year-old son Alma d’Oro is excelling at any distance. In the John B. Campbell Handicap on February 19 at Laurel Park in Maryland, he grabbed the lead after the six-furlong mark and never looked back in route to a four and one-quarter length score.
Bred by Fred N. Sahadi, he is a half-brother to stakes-placed Ford Island out of the Stakes-placed mare Brenda D S, she a half-sister to stakes winners Daniel’s Boy, Nicholas DS, Emma D and Joyce D. Alma d’Oro is inbred to the great Natalma 4 X 5 through Northern Dancer on his sire, Medaglia d’Oro’s side, and Nostrum, his dam’s broodmare sire.
This was the second stakes winner in seven days for Medaglia d’Oro as daughter Vision in Gold entered the ranks of G2 winner with her impressive win in the G2 Santa Maria Handicap last week. Alma d’Oro and Vision and Gold are two of 23 career stakes winners for Medaglia d’Oro, a list that also includes Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and 2010 G1 winners Warrior’s Reward, Gabby’s Golden Gal and Champagne d’Oro.
