Medaglia d’Oro has top colt on Day 3 of Keeneland September

Medaglia d'Oro boasted the top-priced offering on the first day of Keeneland’s September Sale at $1.5 million. Then barn mate Bernardini took the crown on day two with his $1.3 million yearling. And on the third day of the 11-day sale, on September 11th, Medaglia d’Oro was represented by a $1.7 million colt; not quite the session topper but it was the top-priced paid for a colt on the day. It does, however, represent the highest-price ever paid for a Medaglia d'Oro yearling.

With fantastic looks to match his outstanding pedigree, the yearling half to Super Saver is also a half-brother to G3 winner Brethren and is out of the A.P. Indy mare, Supercharger, a full sister to other Darley stallion and G1 winner Girolamo. The colt also shares lineage with the great Phipps family of G1 winner Rhythm.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, B. Wayne Hughes was the purchaser.

Blandford Bloodstock was the top bidder at $340,000 on another yearling by Medaglia d’Oro, hip number 575, from the consignment of Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud acting as agent. Out of the Seeking the Gold mare Trepidation, the bay filly is a half-sister to Irish top-weighted sprinter Maoineach and to the Stakes-winner and G2-placed Tiz Now Tiz Then.

Bernardini continued his strong sale on day and brought to 11 the total number of six or seven figure yearlings having passed through the ring thus far. It was hip number 509 that proved to be the most popular Bernardini offering with a final bid of $475,000 from Joseph Moss. Another consigned by Denali Stud, you don’t have go back very far on his catalog page to also see the bold-faced name of A.P. Indy, in addition to Summer Squall and many others.

Lane’s End Farm consigned hip number 530, another Bernardini yearling, who is out of the three-time G1 winner Sweet Catomine. Live Oak Stud proved to be the successful bidder at $330,000 for the dark bay or brown filly.

Once again, Street Cry made his presence known to buyers; this time, in the form of the chestnut colt out of the Stakes-placed mare, Trickski. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, the striking yearling is a half-brother to the G1 winner Dearest Tricksi, and was purchased by Gary and Mary West.

Lastly, Street Cry’s son, Street Sense, set to return to Darley in America for 2014, was represented by two $100,000+ yearlings, strengthened by the strong performanc his progeny in 2013.

The first, a $250,000 yearling out of the multiple Stakes winner Truly Blushed, was purchased byJay Em Ess Stable. The bay colt hailed from the consignment of Top Line Sales, LLC, agent. The second - and the last horse in the ring on day three - was consigned by Mulholland Springs, agent, was purchased by Frankie Brothers for $150,000. He is out of the Listed Stakes winner and G1-placed mare Amazed By Grace.
