A Medaglia d’Oro yearling colt topped the first session of Keeneland September Book One on September 12, going to M. V. Magnier for $1,000,000. Selling as hip 48 from the consignment of Taylor Made Sales, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised, the colt is out of the Stakes winning Smart Strike mare Spring Party, a half-sister to G1 Forego winner and Darley stallion Emcee, as well as G2 winner Surfer and G3-placed Baffled, dam of multiple G1 winner Constitution.

Later in the session, Medaglia d’Oro had two additional colts sell, with hip 199, another colt from the Taylor Made Sales consignment, going to China Horse Club/Maverick Racing for $525,000, and hip 128, a colt out of a half-sister to G1 winner Pathfork, selling to John Ferguson Bloodstock for $400,000.
Medaglia d’Oro also had three fillies sell on day one, including hip 141 from the Denali Stud consignment, a filly of out the G1-placed Danehill Dancer mare Wild Wind, which brought $400,000 on a final bid from Mike Ryan, agent. Hip 133, a filly out of multiple G2 winner Wasted Tears, sold to Bobby Flay, James Delahooke, agent, for $360,000, and hip 160, a filly out of G1-placed Alienation, went to Dan Hayden, agent for Fager Stable, for $310,000.
At the end of day one, Medaglia d’Oro was second to War Front by average with six sold for an average of $499,167.
First crop yearling sire Animal Kingdom continued his promising start at the sales, following up on his $310,000 yearling filly at Saratoga with a couple of strong results on day one at Keeneland. Hip 38 from the Taylor Made consignment, a filly out of multiple Stakes winner and G3-placed Somethinaboutbetty, sold for $300,000 to Team Valor International. Earlier in the session, hip 23 from the consignment of Valkyre Stud, a half-sister to G1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Shared Account, sold to Mike Ryan, agent, for $125,000. Animal Kingdom was the leading first crop sire by average on day one with two or more sold.
Bernardini also got off to a great start on day one, with a pair of colts selling for over $500,000. Hip 70, a colt from the Taylor Made Sales consignment, sold to Shadwell Estate Company, Ltd. For $550,000, and later on in the session, hip 149, a colt out of G2 winner Zardana from the Winter Quarter Farm consignment, brought $520,000 selling to Charles River Bloodstock. Bernardini finished the day with three yearlings sold for an average of $420,000.
