May Day Rose blooms in first Stakes attempt at Hollywood Park
Rockport Harbor's two-year-old filly May Day Rose, seemed to relish stretching out to the one and one-sixteenth mile distance of Hollywood’s Sharp Cat Stakes, taking the lead shortly after the break and never looking back en route to an impressive four and one-quarter-length victory in just her third career start.
Beaten just half a length first time out, the Bridlewood Farm-bred filly took a five-and-a-half-furlong contest at Del Mar to become her sire’s fifth winner in early September.
Trained by Bob Baffert for Kaleem Shah, May Day Rose is out of May Day Bluff, by Pine Bluff, and was sold for $220,000 at Ocala in June.
Rockport Harbor is the sire of 12 other winners from his first crop, including Stakes winner Bear’s Future as well as G3 stakes-placed Minutesandtouches.
