Hard Spun’s son Le Romain landed the G3 Southern Cross Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on February 13. This is the third Group win for the four-year-old, who remains a two-time Group 1 winner with his most recent victory in the G1 Cantala Stakes earlier in the season.
Ridden by jockey Hugh Bowman for trainer Kris Lees, Le Romain jumped well from barrier 6 moving quickly into stride. Travelling just off the pace, Le Romain rallied in the straight to secure first place ahead of tough contender Big Money.
Bred by Mr Mark Carusi, Le Romain is out of Strategic mare Mignard who was a placegetter in the G2 Silver Slipper Trial and hails from the family of Dubai’s Champion 3YO sprinter Long John who is a son of Street Cry.
Alongside eight other G1 winners including Eclipse Champion Questing, Arlington Million winner Hardest Core and multiple G1 winner Hard Not To Like, Le Romain is amongst the best-performed progeny for his leading sire Hard Spun.
Hard Spun will stand the 2017 season at Jonabell Farm for $45,000, stands and nurses.
