The evergreen and versatile Le Romain added a fifth Stakes win to his record, turning in a consummate performance to take the G3 Show County Quality at Royal Randwick in Australia on Saturday, August 18.
Given a copybook ride by James McDonald, the six-year-old dashed through an inside opening with 200m to run and was being eased down on the line to win by a length and a half.
Le Romain is the winner of three G1 races, all at 1,600m, but his latest win at 1,200m showed he still has the speed to be competive over shorter trips.
Bred by Mark Carusi, Le Romain is out of the Strategic mare Mignard who was a placegetter in the G2 Silver Slipper Trial from the family of Long John (Street Cry), a Stakes winner in Dubai and Australia.
The win took Hard Spun’s earnings to A$2.8 million, enhancing the position he already held as Hard Spun’s greatest money winner and one of his sire’s 63 stakes winners.
