Inthewinnerscircle overcame an outside post and a driving rainstorm to earn a hard-fought neck victory in the Cellars Shiraz Stakes at Gulfstream Park Nov. 5.
It was the second Stakes victory for the aptly-named daughter of Medaglia d’Oro. She captured the Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes at Gulfstream Park West in 2020.
Racing at the rear of the field through the early stages of the mile-and-seventy-yard contest, Inthewinnerscircle was angled four-wide in the stretch by jockey Christian Torres and put under a drive in the lane. She rallied in the stretch to win by a neck.
Bred in Florida by owner Live Oak Plantation, Inthewinnerscircle is out of the unraced Bernardini mare, Sweet Bernardini. Her second dam is G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and 2004 Eclipse Champion Two-Year-Old, Sweet Catomine. Inthewinnerscircle is the second foal and first runner for Sweet Bernardini.
In addition to Inthewinnerscircle, Medaglia d’Oro has been represented around the globe in 2021 by Graded Stakes winners Golden Sixty (multiple G1 winner and two-time Horse of the Year in Hong Kong); Kallos and Yonkers, both G2 winners in Australia and Magny Cours, winner of the G3 Prix Perth at Saint-Cloud in France. In North America, Medaglia d’Oro’s Graded Stakes winners include Navratilova (G3), Souper Escape (G3), Vigilantes Way (G3), Risk Taking (G3), Moonlight d’Oro (G3) and Beautiful Gift (G3).
