Godolphin Racing’s Innovative Idea outdueled heavily-favored Super Majesty to win the $100,000 Iowa Distaff by three-quarters of a length.
Rated just off the pace through the early stages of the race, Innovative Idea joined the pacesetting Super Majesty on the far turn and the pair battled through the stretch. The 4-year-old daughter of Bernardini began to edge clear nearing the wire to earn her first Stakes victory.
Bred in Kentucky by Darley, Innovative Idea is out of the multiple Graded Stakes winner Golden Velvet, who notched victories in the G3 Sixty Sails Handicap and G3 Sabin Handicap and finished second in the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes. Golden Velvet is a daughter of the multiple Graded Stakes winner Caress, and is a half-sister to G1 Hopeful Stakes winner, Sky Mesa.
Bernardini is having yet another superb season and is already the sire of eight Graded Stakes winners in 2016. So far this year, Bernardini has sired Cavorting, impressive winner of the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes; Lewis Bay, winner of the G2 Gazelle Stakes; Penwith, winner of the G2 Royal Delta Stakes; Le Bernardin, winner of the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1; Carrumba, winner of the G3 Top Flight Handicap; and Shagaf, winner of the G3 Gotham Stakes. Bernardini has sired 48 Stakes winners, among them 13 G1 winners including Alpha, Rachel’s Valentina, To Honor And Serve, and Stay Thirsty.
