Hard Spun Colt Remains Unbeaten
A narrow but impressive winner on debut, two-year-old colt Tarquin stepped up significantly in class, while dropping back in distance, to give Hard Spun his second Australian Stakes winner of his current juvenile crop.
Ridden by international jockey William Buick who is in Australia to partner some of Godolphin’s runner during the carnival, the colt settled back in the pack before coming home late to record a three-quarters-of-a-length victory over Street Cry colt Rageese.
Bred by Darley in Australia, Tarquin is the fifth winner and first Stakes winner for Daanet Al Dunya, a Rahy sister to Champion galloper and successful sire Fantastic Light, from the family of G1 Hollywood Oaks winner Gorgeous.
The sire of six G1 winners highlighted by the unbeaten Ertijaal, the Wood Memorial winner Wicked Strong and the Arlington Million winner Hardest Core, Hard Spun stands for a 2015 fee of $35,000 stands and nurses.
