Hard Aces all heart in G1 win
The last time Hard Spun’s Hard Aces visited the winner’s circle was in January for his previous owners in his first Stakes win in Louisiana. His new connections have to be feeling pretty good as the five-year-old wins at the highest level, becoming the seventh G1 winner for his sire in taking the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita on June 27th.
There wasn’t any real surprise how the race set up for Hard Aces as he was positioned in the back of the field in the early goings of the 12-fulong race. The speed didn’t hold up as the field entered the turn and Hard Aces took the inside route to his first career G1 win.
A homebred for Dreamchaser Thorobreds, Hard Aces is out of pensioned Darley American stallion Quiet American mare All In With Aces, who is out of Stakes winner Aces.
Hard Aces is the 19th career Grade or Group winner for Hard Spun. His sixth other G1 winners include Champion Questing in addition to 2014 G1 winners Hard Not To Like and Hardest Core.
