Darley stallion Cherokee Run (pictured) sired his 40th individual Stakes winner on September 13, when his four-year-old son Cherokee Artist notched his fifth career win and first at Stakes level, taking the Presque Isle Mile Stakes at Presque Isle Downs.
Settled off the pace early on, Cherokee Artist made progress heading into the far turn and rallying superbly, led all the way down the stretch and eventually won by two-and-three-quarter lengths.
Bred by J Mack Robinson, he is out of the G3 winner Race Artist (Mr Prospector), who is also dam of another Stakes winner by Cherokee Run in Cherokee Girl.
Cherokee Artist was his sire’s second Stakes winner in as many days, following two-year-old filly Running Bride’s eyecatching victory in the City of Anderson Stakes.
Cherokee Run has 17 yearlings catalogued at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, which commences today.
Also on Sunday, freshman sire Offlee Wild sired his tenth individual winner when Certain Pride got up in the stretch to take the six-furlong Maiden Special Weight at Remington Park.
Owned and bred by the Heiligbrodts, Certain Pride is out of the stakes-placed mare Tioga who is herself a half-sister to two Black type winners. Offlee Wild has eleven yearlings due to sell at Keeneland.
