Floodlight took command with just over a furlong to go and drew off to score a decisive two-length victory in the Listed Grand Prix du Lion d’Angers July 16.
Breaking alertly under jockey Mickael Barzalona, Floodlight tracked leader Lord Glitters from second throughout the early stages of the race. With just over a furlong to run, the three-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro swept past the longtime leader and took command, drawing off to win easily.
Bred in Kentucky by Darley and racing in the royal blue Godolphin silks, Floodlight is out of the A.P. Indy mare, Flashing, winner of the G1 Test Stakes and G1 Gazelle. Both Floodlight and Flashing hail from the immediate family of G1 winners Seaside Attraction and Gorgeous.
Medaglia d'Oro is experiencing yet another outstanding year in 2016 having sired 12 blacktype winners so far. Leading that list is the champion filly Songbird, who remains undefeated in seven career starts. Her victories in 2016 include the G1 Santa Anita Oaks and G2 Summertime Oaks. In addition to Songbird, Medaglia d’Oro’s son Mshawish has illustrated his sire’s versatility by capturing the G1 Donn Handicap on the dirt after having won the G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap last year. Medaglia d’Oro’s worldwide influence is exemplified by the likes of Vancouver, a G1 winner in Australia last year, in addition to five additional Group winners in Australia in 2016.
