Animal Kingdom's first Northern Hemisphere starter won on debut at Keeneland on April 27th, as his two-year-old daughter Sunny Skies dominated the opening race.
Sent off as the 4-5 favorite in the four and one-half furlong maiden special weight, Sunny Skies was much the best, going wire-to-wire and pulling away under a hand ride to win by nine lengths for owner Normandy Farm and trainer Kenny McPeek.
Bred in Kentucky by her owner, Sunny Skies is out of the unraced Marquetry mare Skyscape, and is a half-sister to G2 winner Sky Cape (Najran).
Sunny Skies is the first starter and first winner in the Northern Hemisphere for Animal Kingdom, whose Southern Hemisphere winners include TDN Rising Star Earth Angel, Platinum, and Lord Cecil.
Animal Kingdom is standing the 2017 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $30,000, stands and nurses.
