Australian superstar Sepoy, by Elusive Quality, certainly lived up to his hype yet again September 3 with a decisive win in the G2 Danehill Stakes at Flemington.
The three-year-old colt easily bested rivals during the six furlong event by quickening in the final stages for the win. Sepoy had most recently returned to racing with a Listed victory in the Vain Stakes. He is already a dual-G1 winner this year, in both the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes and G1 Blue Diamond Stakes. The colt has won seven of eight starts - all in remarkable black type company and has now surpassed more than AUS$3 million in earnings.
Bred by Darley Australia, Sepoy is out of the Danehill mare Watchful, who is a full-sister to G1 winner Camarena. Following in the family tradition, Camarena is the dam of G1 winner Camarilla, also by Elusive Quality.
Elusive Quality has sired some of the world's top runners. among them are G1 Breeders' Cup Classic hero Raven's Pass, G1 Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, and Quality Road whose victories included the G1 Woodward Stakes. Recently his juvenile daughter Elusive Kate took the G3 Prix Du Calvados.
