Discreetness overcame a sloppy track and chilly temperatures to score a hard-fought nose victory in the eight-furlong Springboard Mile Stakes, the closing day feature at Remington Park.
The two-year-old son of Discreet Cat sat just behind the early pacesetters for most of the race. He then swept four-wide on the far turn and rallied powerfully in the stretch to get up to win by a nose.
Bred in Kentucky by Trackside Farm and Tenlane Farm, Discreetness is out of Fondness, a daughter of Elusive Quality. Fondness is a half-sister to Bahamian Pirate, winner of the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes, and Strong Hope, winner of the G2 Jim Dandy and G2 Dwyer. Discreetness hails from the female family of champions El Gran Senor and Try My Best.
Discreet Cat is the sire of ten Graded Stakes winners lifetime, a group that includes G1 Del Mar Oaks winner Discreet Marq, back-to-back G1 Carter Handicap winner Dads Caps, and G1 Chandelier Stakes winner Secret Compass.
Discreet Cat will stand for a stud fee of $7,500 (stands and nurses) in 2016.
