William Inglis & Sons’ flagship yearling sale began on Sunday and despite predictions of a slow down in the market, trade was brisk during the first two days.
Elusive Quality enjoyed an outstanding first two days, with three lots selling for $500,000, the first of which, a filly consigned by Darley, was bought by Charles Laird (pictured). She is out of the winning mare Duelling Girl, who has produced two Stakes winners in Keep The Faith and Pistols, and is from the good European family of Faithful Son and Always Fair.
The next of the trio through the ring was Lot 123, a colt consigned by Almavale Bloodstock. The sales company acted as agents in this purchase and they were the lucky recipitant of this early foal who is out of the winning mare Gerber, making him a half-brother to 2008 stakes winner La Chasseuse. Another filly from the Darley consignment completed the three, with Payne Racing making the final bid. She is a daughter of High School and from the excellent family of Sunbittern, whose decedents include the top sire In The Wings, Derby winner High-Rise and 1000 Guineas winner Virginia Waters.
The progeny of leading first- season sire Exceed And Excel are very much in demand and during the first two days of the sale he has had five lots sell for more than $400,000. Consigned by Kia Ora Stud, lot 279 was a filly out of the Champion two-year-old One Under and Ingham Bloodstock had to go to $900,000 to secure her, whilst Darley paid $750,000 for a colt from the family of Bravery.
Another Darley resident to record excellent results was first-season stallion Shamardal, who had four lots selling, all of which realised over $200,000. Shadwell Stud was again amongst the buyers, this time at $300,000, for a filly out of winning mare Doduo who is related to Invincible Spirit. The same figure was also paid by T Bott to secure a colt out of Stakes-placed mare Danse d’Ecole and from the world-class family of Fall Aspen.
The sale continues tomorrow.
