The momentum by the young Darley sire and champion Street Sense continued in the US at Keeneland’s 2011 April Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale where three of his offerings brought prices of US$260,000, US$230,000 and US$200,000. He was the only sire represented by three prices at or above the US$200,000 mark and the US$260,000 was the highest price for any freshman sire. Street Sense is currently the leading freshman sire of 2011 by sales average and this is on the back of his extremely successful Inglis Easter Yearling sale last week where his top lot sold for $575,000.
Fellow Darley freshman sires Hard Spun and Any Given Saturday also made an impact with both represented by colts selling for a price of US$240,000, with a Hard Spun filly also fetching that same amount, the highest-priced for any filly by a freshman sire.
During their three-year-old season, these three stallions consistently distinguished themselves among their peers with Street Sense and Hard Spun finishing one-two in that year’s Kentucky Derby, while Any Given Saturday showed his brilliance in defeating Horse of the Year Curlin in the G1 Haskell Invitational.
