Coffee Clique thrills in G1 Just A Game Stakes
We're seeing double. As Medaglia d'Oro filly Coffee Clique won the G1 Just A Game Stakes at Belmont June 7, she became the second G1 winner on the day for a Darley sire after Sweet Reason (Street Sense) won the G1 Acorn Stakes. To top it off though, Medaglia d'Oro sired his second G1 Just A Game winner as well, as his daughter C. S. Silk took the race in 2011.
In the one-mile race Coffee Clique pressed the pace from fourth position, in between horses. Into the stretch it was wide open, and Coffee Clique put forth a powerful run down the lane and fought hard to seal the win in the final strides.
Bred in Kentucky by Mrs. Jerry Amerman, four-year-old Coffee Clique is out of the Royal Academy mare Miss Chapin, who is a daughter of Stakes winner and Graded Stakes-placed mare Society Dream.
Coffee Clique marks the 11th G1 winner for her sire Medaglia d'Oro and joins rank with such phenomenal runners as Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and fellow G1-winning turf specialist Marketing Mix, among others.
Medaglia d'Oro's stud fee is $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
