Cavorting swept past the leaders on the far turn and drew off in the stretch to win the G1 Ogden Phipps Stakes by three lengths at Belmont Park June 11.
A talented field of seven fillies and mares – five of which were G1 Stakes winners - went to the post in the Ogden Phipps. Also in the field was the up-and-coming Graded Stakes winner, Carrumba, who like Cavorting is a daughter of Bernardini.
Ridden patiently by Florent Geroux, Cavorting was settled at the rear of the field through the early stages of the race before taking command in the stretch and drawing off for the win. Finishing a good third was Carrumba, who was making her first start in G1 Stakes company.
Bred in Kentucky by Swettenham Stud, Cavorting is out of five-time Stakes winner Promenade Girl, whose wins include the G2 Molly Pitcher Breeders' Cup Stakes. The mare also finished third in both the G1 Juddmonte Spinster Stakes and G1 Ogden Phipps Handicap. Cavorting is a half-sister to the promising juvenile Thirstforlife, recently third in the Kentucky Juvenile Stakes.
Bernardini is having yet another great season and is already the sire of seven Graded Stakes winners in 2016. In addition to Cavorting, Bernardini is the sire of Lewis Bay, winner of the G2 Gazelle Stakes who recently finished third in the G1 Kentucky Oaks; Penwith, winner of the G2 Royal Delta Stakes; Le Bernardin, winner of the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1; Carrumba, winner of the G3 Top Flight Handicap; and Shagaf, winner of the G3 Gotham Stakes. Bernardini has sired 47 Stakes winners, among them 13 G1 winners including Alpha, Rachel’s Valentina, To Honor And Serve, and Stay Thirsty.
