Carving stays sharp in Stakes in California
Coming straight out of a his debut maiden win, Any Given Saturday’s two-year-old colt Carving made it two in a row on September 12, at Fairplex Park in California, in the C. B. Afflerbaugh Stakes. The talented colt bided his time in second and then passed the leader at the top of the stretch to draw away by three and one-quarter lengths at the wire.
This is the second juvenile Stakes winner for Any Given Saturday in just seven days as his son Dry Summer won the one-mile Oak Tree Juvenile Turf Stakes at Del Mar last week.
Carving was bred by WinStar Farm, LLC, in Kentucky and is out of the winning Giant’s Causeway mare In Seconds. She, in turn, is a half-sister to the multiple Graded winner/multiple G1-placed Lear Spear and to the dam of the Grades Stakes-placed winner Moriarity.
Any Given Saturday is also sire of Princess Arabella, the undefeated stakes winner of the 2012 Sunland Park Oaks, in addition to Sunday's Child, winner of the Sarah Lane's Oates Stakes at the Fair Grounds. A $1.1 million-dollar yearling, Any Given Saturday defeteated Horse of the Year Curlin in the G1 Haskell.
