Capezzano took command right out of the starting gate and never looked back as he rolled to a nine-and-a-half-length victory in the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge R3 at Meydan March 9.
In doing so the Bernardini gelding not only earned his first Graded Stakes victory, he also easily put away defending G1 Dubai World Cup champion Thunder Snow (by Helmet) in the process.
Capezzano was bred in Kentucky by Darley, and is out of Cableknit, by Unbridled’s Song. Cableknit is out of Canadian Champion Two-Year-Old Filly, Silken Cat, and is a half-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner and Champion Sprinter, Speightstown.
Capezzano becomes the 69th Stakes winner for his sire, Bernardini, who is also represented in 2019 by Cherry Lodge, winner of the Ladies’ Turf Sprint Stakes and Crescentcitypretty, winner of the Azalea Stakes.
Bernardini is standing the 2019 breeding season at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for $50,000, stands and nurses.
