Café Americano capped off a tremendous day for trainer Chad Brown when she charged to a two-length victory in the G3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park Aug. 10.
The three-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro provided Brown with a sweep of the final four races on the card (including three G1’s: Arlington Million, Beverly D., and Secretariat Stakes). She also became the second Stakes winner of the day for her sire, whose daughter Goldwood took the Incredible Revenge Stakes at Monmouth Park earlier in the day.
Racing near the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, Café Americano began closing swiftly on the far turn. At the top of the stretch she was under a full head of steam and quickly swept to the lead, eventually drawing off to win by two lengths.
Café Americano was bred in Kentucky by Blue Heaven Farm LLC. She is out of Roxy Gap (Indian Charlie), Canadian Champion Older Mare and Champion Sprinter, and winner of the G2 Hendrie Stakes, G3 Whimsical Stakes and G3 Royal North Stakes.
Medaglia d'Oro is the sire of 34 Stakes performers in 2019 - ten Group or Graded winners - including Elate, winner of the G2 Delaware Handicap and G2 Fleur de Lis; Majestic Eagle, winner of the G3 American Stakes; Golden Award, winner of the G3 Shuvee and G1 Rosehill Guineas winner, Crown Prosecutor.
