Berned notched her second Stakes victory when she closed from well off the pace to win the Serena’s Song Stakes by one-and-three-quarter lengths at Monmouth Park.
The win provided Bernardini with his second Stakes winner of the day, after his son Westwood took the Runhappy Stakes at Belmont Park less than thirty minutes earlier.
Racing near the rear of the field through the early stages of the race, Berned began her move on the far turn, sweeping past rivals while racing five-wide. At the top of the stretch she hit another gear, pulling away in the stretch to win easily.
Bred in Kentucky by AR Enterprises LLC, Berned is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare, First Passage, winner of the G3 Azalea Stakes. First Passage is out of the multiple Stakes-winning mare, Win’s Fair Lady, a full sister to Graeme Hall (G2 Arkansas Derby, G2 Jim Dandy, etc.). Win’s Fair Lady is also a half-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner Harmony Lodge (G1 Ballerina, G2 Gallant Bloom, etc.) and G3 winner, Win McCool, dam of G1 Arkansas Stakes winner, Magnum Moon.
Bernardini sired six Graded Stakes winners in 2017 including G1 Vosburgh winner Takaful, G2 Charles Town Classic hero Imperative, G2 Al Maktoum Challenge-Round 1 victor Le Bernardin, and Watershed, winner of the G3 Ben Ali Stakes at Keeneland.
Bernardini is standing the 2018 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $85,000, stands and nurses.
