Bernardini’s Texas Tempest storms to victory in maiden win
Content to bid his time in third place through a half mile, jockey Aaron Gryder began to urge Bernardini’s Texas Tempest on as the field entered the stretch and was able to overtake the frontrunner down the lane, pulling away for a one-length victory in this one mile affair at Remington Park in Oklahoma City.
Texas Tempest was produced from the Blacktype winner and multiple Stakes producer Copelan’s Bid Gal, and is a half-sister to G2 winner Purge, Listed winner and G3-placed Namaste’s Wish, and G2-placed Louisvilleluminary. Texas Tempest was bred by Glory Days Breeding, Inc., in Kentucky.
Champion Bernardini is the sire of six other winners from his first crop, including G1 Frizette Stakes winner A Z Warrior, G1 Gran Criterium Stakes winner Biondetti, G3 winner and G1-placed Theyskens’ Theory as well as G1-placed Stay Thirsty. He is the only stallion ever to sire G1 juvenile winners on both dirt and turf in his first crop.
