Bernardini's Dame Dorothy dominates in G3 Turnback The Alarm
Bernardini filly Dame Dorothy just keeps getting better. After winning her first three starts by a combined sixteen-and-one-half-lengths, the three-year-old filly was at it again October 26 with another strong score in the G3 Turnback The Alarm Handicap, her first in Graded Stakes company.
In the one-and-one-sixteenth-mile race Dame Dorothy was kept under a strong hold along the inside, three-lengths off the pace in third. Entering the far turn the filly swung to the outside to challenge the pace, and took over the lead down the lane where she couldn't be stopped as she continued her unbeaten record. It was the second Black type win for the daughter of Bernardini, who captured the Malvern Rose Stakes last time out.
Dame Dorothy was a $390,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase for Bobby Flay, and was bred by Derry Meeting Farm. Out of the Woodman mare Vole Vole Monamour, the filly is a half-sister to G1 E.P. Taylor and G1 Prix Vermeille winner Mrs. Lindsay.
Among Bernardini's top runners in 2014 are recent G1 Chandelier Stakes winner Angela Renee and G2 Adirondack Stakes winning-filly Cavorting, both of which start in next week's G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Dame Dorothy marks the 26th Graded or Group winner to date for the sire, a group that also includes G1 winners To Honor And Serve, Stay Thirsty, and Alpha, who joins Darley's stallion roster in 2015.
