Bernardini, undoubtedly the star of the sales ring in recent months, was responsible for the highest-priced juvenile at the Keeneland April Sale on Monday when his colt out of Moonlight Sonata sold for $625,000.
Offered by Bill Helmbrecht on behalf of breeder Woodbridge Bloodstock, the colt was bought by Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables and is a half-brother to G2 winner Beethoven.
Bernardini is currently leading sire of two-year-olds at the sales by median, with his nearest rival Empire Maker recording a median over $100,000 lower than Bernardini’s $520,000.
He is also second in the general sires’ table by average, behind only Distorted Humor.
Fellow Darley stallion Rockport Harbor – whose first runners are also due to hit the track – also figured in the top prices of the sale when Prime Equestrian went to $310,000 to secure his colt out of multiple Black type producer Limestone Landing.
