Two-year-old Medaglia d’Oro colt Tessera remained unbeaten and provided his sire with back-to-back G3 Canonbury Stakes winners with a brilliant victory at Rosehill, January 30.
Twelve months earlier, Medaglia d’Oro colt Vancouver remained unbeaten following his victory in the Canonbury Stakes. Two starts later he would claim the G1 Golden Slipper, the world’s richest race for juveniles.
Tessera will now be given the opportunity to continue to emulate his paternal half-brother and will head towards the Golden Slipper to be run at Rosehill on March 19.
Bred by Darley, Tessera is the second Stakes winner out of metropolitan-winning Flying Spur mare Chatoyant who is also the dam of G3-winning juvenile Montsegur (New Approach). Chatoyant is a half-sister to G1 winner Bonaria, as well as G3 winners Legally Bay and Time Out.
Medaglia d'Oro was the sire of 29 Stakes winners in 2015 including Vancouver and dual G1-winning juvenile filly Songbird. He will stand the 2016 breeding season at a fee of $150,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
