Anything but Discreet
With a G1 win and a G1 placing in her last two starts, Discreet Cat’s Discreet Marq was a deserving favorite in the Pebbles Stakes at Belmont and didn’t disappoint as she notched her fifth career Stakes win.
As the field broke from the gate, Discreet Marq was a little farther back than usual, rating along in fourth, then third as the field approached the top of the stretch. She collared the frontrunner in mid stretch and then inched away from that one for a hard-fought victory.
Bred by Patricia Generazio, the consistent Discreet Marq has been on the board in 10 of 12 career starts, including nine Stakes wins or placings. She was victorious in the G1 Del Mar Oaks two starts back and came up just a little bit short last out in the G1 Garden City. She is out of the mutiple Stakes winner and Graded-placed mare To Marquet, also the dam of Stakes horses Marquet Cat and Marquet Madness.
Discreet Cat is ranked third among North America’s leading third-crop sires by earnings, just behind Darley barn mates Street Sense and Hard Spun. He does, however, make the top of the list of sophomore sires by total number of 2013 Stakes winners and Stakes wins. His 11 other added-money winners this year include G1 winning two-year-old filly Secret Compass and other Graded winners Discreet Dancer, Sage Valley and Debt Ceiling.
