Anjaz all the way in G3 Orchid Stakes
Though she hadn't raced since August, it made no difference March 29 as five-year-old Anjaz led every step of the way to take the G3 Orchid Stakes at Gulfstream Park. She marks the 44th Graded or Group winner worldwide for sire Street Cry.
In the one-and-one-half-mile turf race Anjaz darted to the lead right out of the gate and maintained a half-length advantage. Into the stretch she extended her lead and no one could catch her as she rolled to victory and proved much the best.
Bred in Kentucky by Darley, the well-bred mare ran second in the G2 Sheepshead Bay Stakes as a four-year-old. She is out of the Champion and G1-winning Sadler's Wells mare Playful Act, who has also produced G2 winner Giants Play. Playful Act is a half-sister to Group winners Echoes In Eternity and Percussionist and is out of G3 winner Magnificient Style.
Street Cry has sired 15 winners at the highest level around the world. They include renowned Horse Of The Year Zenyatta, G1-winning Darley stallion Street Boss, and two G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winners in New Year's Day and Street Sense. Street Sense went on to win the G1 Kentucky Derby and is still the only horse to win both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby.
Street Cry stands for $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
