Another bold front-running performance has given Angel Of Truth his second Stakes win in eight days in the G1 Australian Derby on Saturday, 6 April and given his sire Animal Kingdom his best winner to date.
The previous weekend Angel Of Truth staged a similar all-the-way performance to win the G2 Tulloch Stakes, becoming Animal Kingdom’s first Australian Group winner.
In an even more convincing performance in the Derby, he settled perfectly in the lead passing the winning post the first time and was challenged only briefly in the middle stages and was still travelling well at the 200m.
At that point, Corey Brown called on the gelding for another effort and he responded valiantly, stretching his neck and outstaying a strong Derby field to beat the New Zealanders Madison County and Surely Sacred.
Angel Of Truth is the first foal of the winning Bernardini mare Scarletini. He becomes the 11th Stakes winner for Animal Kingdom who has sired three Listed winners in Australia.
Animal Kingdom, the winner of a Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup, is standing at Jonabell Farm in 2019 at US$15,000, stands and nurses.
