In the highly anticipated $400,000 G3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park January 29, it was none other than Bernardini's Algorithms who stole the show to begin his three-year-old campaign with a victory. The colt remained unbeaten with the score for trainer Todd Pletcher and defeated Eclipse Champion Hansen with ease.
Algorithms was a two-year-old debut winner at Belmont last June by more than five lengths. He annexed that victory taking an Allowance at Gulfstream Park in December.
In the one mile G3 Holy Bull, Algorithms settled along the outside just off the pace in second. He began to edge up towards the lead coming around the final turn and sharply moved by Hansen in the stretch to secure the victory by four lengths for owner Starlight Racing.
The three-year-old colt is from a superb family and is out of Graded-placed Ava Knowsthecode, by Cryptoclearance. He is a half-brother to three Graded Stakes winners, among them Keyed Entry, Justin Phillip, and Successful Mission, as well as Stakes winner Alex's Allure. Algorithms was bred in Kentucky by Oakbrook Farm.
Bernardini has had the best start at stud by any American sire since 1973. He is now the sire of eight Graded/Group winners and eight G1 horses. His four G1 winners include G1 Cigar Mile winner To Honor And Serve and G1 Travers Stakes winner Stay Thirsty. In 2011 Bernardini saw two yearlings, a colt and filly, both bring an outstanding $1.2 million at auction. Algorithms represents Bernardini's second crop of runners, who certainly have put forward strong results at the track already. Bernardini stands for $150,000 at Darley USA.
