Just two days after being named Champion Two-Year-Old Male at the prestigious Eclipse Awards, Cherokee Run's outstanding son War Pass was honored once more on 24 January when receiving the high weight assignment of 127 pounds on the 2007 Experimental Free Handicap.
A full seven pounds clear of his nearest rivals (equaling Native Dancer's 1962 record), the winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile was assigned the same mark as new Darley stallion Street Sense, who of course went on to win last year's Kentucky Derby.
The publication of the Experimental also saw success for Cherokee Run's young stallion son Kafwain, who was joint leading sire when represented by no fewer than five of his offspring. The list features two-year-olds of 2007 that finished in the top four in graded or other restricted races with an added value of at least $75,000, run in the continental U.S.
Cherokee Run and Kafwain both stand at Darley America in Kentucky, at fees of $40,000 and $10,000 respectively
