Ruler back in command

Elusive Quality colt claims sixth win in a ten-race campaign

The consistent Native Ruler took his 2008 tally of victories to six in ten starts with his latest win in the Listed Bet On Sunshine Handicap at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

By Elusive Quality out of the Dixieland Band mare Tajannub, the four-year-old colt was bred by Rick Nichols and Bernie Sams and has won eight races in total, with a further four placings taking his career earnings to $268,011.

Another of Elusive Quality’s consistent performers is the British-trained filly Baharah, also four and a daughter of the Oaks-placed Bahr (Generous). She has won four races this season, including two at Listed level, and ran another good race when runner-up in the Listed Churchill Stakes at Lingfield on Saturday.

The highlight of the year has, of course, been Elusive Quality’s Breeders’ Cup Classic-winning son Raven's Pass (pictured), who has retired to Darley in Ireland for 2009. His sire stands at Darley America for $75,000 (Stands and Nurses) and at Darley Australia in NSW for the southern hemisphere season at A$82,500 (inc GST).
