Good Lord Lorrie made his sophomore debut a winning one with a determined half-length victory over The Big Torpedo in the Woodhaven Stakes at Aqueduct on Saturday, 27 April.
Making just his second career start, the three-year-old colt by Hard Spun made the successful jump from maiden winner to Stakes winner while remaining undefeated. Good Lord Lorrie was making his first start since breaking his maiden on the turf at Saratoga last August.
Good Lord Lorrie was bumped slightly coming out of the gate and was taken in hand by jockey Flavien Prat, who was content to settle him just off the pace in third as Works for Me and Ridgewood Runner battled for the lead.
Good Lord Lorrie began his rally on the far turn, as Prat tipped him outside to the three-path for a clear run at the leaders. Good Lord Lorrie began closing relentlessly down the center of the course, eventually reeling in the new leader, The Big Torpedo, nearing the wire to win by a half-length.
Bred in Kentucky by G. Watts Humphrey Jr., Good Lord Lorrie is out of Spinning Wheel, a winning daughter of Smart Strike. Second dam is the G2-placed Magical Ride (Storm Cat), who has also produced Stakes winner Space Mountain, multiple G1-placed Ride On Curlin and Stakes-placed Magic Quest (Nyquist).
In addition to Good Lord Lorrie, Hard Spun is also the sire of Sparkle Blue, winner of the G2 Hillsborough Stakes; Informed Patriot, recent winner of the Bath House Row Stakes; Kupuna, winner of the Evangeline Mile and Drum Roll Please, winner of the $150,000 Jerome Stakes.
Hard Spun is standing the 2024 breeding season at Jonabell Farm for $35,000, stands and nurses.
