Street Sense’s Savvy Street posts miracle win

The recent bout of snowy weather didn’t stop racing at Laurel Racetrack in Maryland today, and those that were on hand were given a real treat as a four-horse photo finish made for very exciting horse racing. And once the official sign went up, it was added-money winner number 28 for Street Sense as son Savvy Street came out on top in the Listed Miracle Wood Stakes.

Savvy Street was tracking the leaders throughout the race’s first half but was then shuffled back to second last in the small but competitive field of six. One the pack turned for home, Savvy Street dipped to the rail but then angled out in mid-stretch and found his best running late to win by a nose.
Bred in Kentucky by Dr. John R. Cummins in Kentucky, Savvy Street graduated from the Keeneland September Sale in 2013 for a now bargain price of $92,000. His mother, Marieval, is a winning daughter of Medaglia d'Oro’s sire, El Prado, and she is a full-sister to Stakes winner Our Golden Dream and a half-sister to Stakes winner Icabad Crane.

Street Sense is off to an excellent start in 2015 with three G1 performers already, including the 1-2 finishers in the G1 Las Virgenes, Callback and Light The City. Another son, three-year-old colt Ocho Ocho Ocho, winner of the G3 Delta Downs Jackpot late last year, is nearing his first start of the year and has aspirations of being at Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May.
