Hot win for Mshawish in G2 Ft. Lauderdale

Second Graded Stakes win for son of Medaglia d'Oro

After a game win in the El Prado Stakes at Gulfstream Park in December, Medaglia d'Oro's five-year-old son Mshawish returned to capture a win in the loaded G2 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes January 10. A winner of the G2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan last year, it was the second Graded/Group win for Mshawish who is a Black-type winner in three countries.

In the one-and-one-sixteenth-mile turf race Mshawish raced under a strong hold on the outside in fourth. As the field moved for the turn, Mshawish began to loom and took over the lead down the lane to seal the victory as the 9-5 favorite.

Bred in Kentucky by OTIF 2007, Mshawish is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Thunder Bayou, who is a half-sister to Stakes winners Meteorologist and Bayou Breeze, the dam of Stakes winner Branded.

Mshawish ranks among Medaglia d'Oro's 31 Graded or Group winners around the world. They include 2014 G1 winners Lochte and Coffee Clique, as well as Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty, and G1-winning turf specialist Marketing Mix. Promising 2014 Stakes winners for the sire also include two-time Stakes winner Atreides, out of G1 winner Dream Rush, and G3 Pilgrim Stakes winner Imperia, out of G1 winner Cocoa Beach.

Medaglia d'Oro stands the 2015 breeding season for $125,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
