Denman Stakes double in Australia

Returning for his second racing campaign, two-year-old Denman gelding Pinch River started this campaign the same way as his last, winning impressively.

Jumping away from a wide gate, Pinch River went forward to lead, pulling away to win the Listed Dalrello Stakes by two-and-a-quarter lengths to become the second stakes winner for his sire.

Having now won three of his five starts, the Robert Heathcote-trained two-year-old was bred by Peter Talty’s Millennium Thoroughbreds.

Pinch River is the third foal from the Catbird mare Avenue Girl whose granddam is the Derly, a half-sister to Champion Three-year-old Filly Detroit, the dam of multiple G1 winner and successful stallion Carnegie.

A little over an hour later, last start-winning Denman filly Shigeru Sendan started a warm favourite in the Listed Woodland Stakes and did not let her supporters down, claiming the race by three-parts-of-a-length to give her sire his third Stakes winner.

Bred by Rothwell Park, Shigeru Sendan is out of the Encosta de Lago mare Flute Of Bubbly whose dam Midnight Mist is a three-quarter sister to G2 winner Truly Wicked, dam of Exceed And Excel’s recent G1 Al Quoz Sprint winner Amber Sky.

With no first-season sire in Australia having sired more Stakes winner than Denman, the G1-winning son of Champion Sire Lonhro stands for $15,000 live foal, stands and nurses, alongside his sire at $30,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
