Lonhro inducted in to Australian Racing Hall of Fame

11-time G1 winner honoured at ceremony in Canberra

Champion racehorse and stallion Lonhro was inducted in to the Australian Racing Hall of Fame at a ceremony at the National Press Gallery of Australia in Canberra, March 9.

In a 35-start career, Lonhro won 26 races including 11 at G1 level and amassed $5.75 million in prizemoney. His G1 wins included the Australian Cup, Caulfield Guineas and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Lonhro joins illustrious company including his famous father Octagonal who was inducted in to the Hall of Fame in 2012.

Australia’s Champion stallion in the 2010-11 racing season, Lonhro is now the sire of six G1 winners including Darley stallions Denman and Benfica, as well as Champion two-year-old Pierro, Mental, Bounding and Beaded.

The family of Darley’s Chief Operating Officer Olly Tait was also inducted in to the Hall of Fame on the night as associates. The Tait family have bred and raced numerous G1 winners including Baguette, Tie The Knot and Spinning Hill.
