Roy Higgins Handicap to Cooldini

Bernardini four-year-old becomes the 25th Stakes winner for his sire

Having always shown staying capabilities, Bernardini four-year-old Cooldini started one of the favourites in the Listed Roy Higgins Handicap at Flemington, Australia on March 1, and duly saluted, winning the race by a length.

Jumping from the outside barrier, jockey Glen Boss went forward to sit in fourth position and with a solid tempo being set by the leading pair who went many lengths clear of the rest of the field, Cooldini was getting the run of the race.

Urged along slightly before the turn, Cooldini travelled up on the outside of the leaders and extended very well, surging away for classy victory. Set to head to the G2 Adelaide Cup in just over a week, Cooldini has now recorded seven wins for his connections.

Bred by Mrs D M Dennis, Cooldini is out of the Danehill mare Eliza Dane, a half-sister to the Listed winners Don Bellotto and Hysterical. From the family of the Group Three-winning, Group One placed Triple Elegance, Eliza Dane is the dam of six winners including the Listed Darley Seymour Cup winner Correct Amoondo.

The sire of 25 stakes winners including this season’s Australian G1 Epsom and Emirates Stakes winner Boban, Bernardini stands the 2014 breeding season for $100,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
