New Stakes winner for Street Sense

Courtesan pulls away in the Juvenile Filly Turf at Gulfstream Park

In her first time against winners last time out at Keeneland, in the G3 Jessamine Handicap, Street Sense's Courtesan closed well to finished third while defeating seven others. In the Juvenile Filly Turf Stakes at Gulfstream on November 9th, the three-year-old proved that she's a filly of some class as she became the 15th career Stakes winner for her sire.

Just as she did in the Jessamine Handicap, Courtesan found herself running just about in mid-pack until the field entered the turn before the stretch. She quickly accelerated and gained the lead about a sixteenth of a mile from home and then pulled away easily for the win.

Courtesan was bred by Ocala Stud, Joseph M. O'Farrell and David John in Florida and is a half-sister to the Listed winner Chary. Her dam is a half-sister to Darley sire Discreet Cat, G1 winner Discreetly Mine, Stakes winner/G1-placed Plenty Wild and G3 Stakes-placed Discreet Treasure.

Street Sense, who remains the only horse to have ever won both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Kentucky Derby, is currently North America's leading third-crop sire in 2013 and has 13 Stakes winners of 18 Stakes races this year and his progeny have earned almost $6 million. Most successful among his runners this year are G1 winners Sweet Reason and Aubby K.

He will stand the 2014 season for a fee of $40,000, live foal, stands and nurses.
