Third Stakes victory for Lonhro filly

Bounding scores dominant win in G3 James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes

Lonhro’s star New Zealand three-year-old filly Bounding ensured she will start a short-priced favourite for next month’s G1 NZ 1000 Guineas following her dominant win in the G3 James and Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes at Te Rapa in New Zealand, October 28.

Bounding exploded from the barriers before steadying to sit outside the leader in the early stages. Allowed to stride as the field swung in to the home straight, Bounding burst clear and quickly put the race beyond doubt, going on to win by an ever-widening four lengths.

Bred by Michael Birchall, Bounding is the first foal out of the Darley-bred G3-winning Exceed And Excel mare Believe ‘N’ Succeed, a sister to recent G2 McEwen Stakes winner Kuroshio and Listed winner Agulhas. Believe ‘N’ Succeed’s second foal is a Street Cry colt born last month.

The sire of 40 Stakes winners, Lonhro’s G1 winners include Darley Australia stallions Denman and Benfica, as well as Pierro, Mental and Beaded. His oldest US-bred progeny are weanlings.
