Tenacious Tentadero gets up in time to take G3 Clasico Raimundo Valdes Cuevas

Midshipman colt battles gamely to earn first Stakes victory

It came down to a back-and-forth battle in deep stretch but at the wire it was Tentadero who got the better of Kauto Y Pillo to win the G3 Clasico Raimundo Valdes Cuevas by a head at Club Hipico De Santiago on Friday, 12 July.

Tentadero, a three-year-old colt by Midshipman, earned his first Graded Stakes win in the Group 3 contest, after previously taken third in the G3 Cotejo de Potrillos.

A field of eight sophomores went to the post in the eight-furlong turf contest. At the start, it was Tell Me More that went to the front to set the pace, as Tentadero was settled about four lengths behind that one in third. The field continued in the same order as they entered the home straight, but Kauto Y Pillo and Tentadero soon moved up to engage Tell Me More with a furlong left to run.

Tell Me More began to fade in the final stages and the battle came down to just Tentadero and Kauto Y Pillo as that pair battled back and forth nearing the wire, with Tentadero finally coming out on top.

Bred in Chile by Haras Don Alberto, Tentadero is out of Hikkadden, a winning daughter of Stevie Wonderboy. Hikkadden is out of the multiple Graded Stakes-placed mare, Hidden Treasure, and is a half-sister to Stakes winner, Hidden Rock.

Tentadero continues the successful summer for his sire, Midshipman. In addition to the Valdes Cuevas victor Midshipman is represented by June G1 winners Cassis Violeta and Gran Dali. The stallion is also the sire of 2024 Oaklawn Park Stakes winner Midshipman's Dance
