All but one of Switch’s rivals in the G1 Santa Monica were at least five years old, but youth – along with what appears to be a load of talent – proved to be what was needed as the just-turned four-year-old Quiet American filly won her second G1 with ease. She had previously captured the G1 La Brea in December.
Switch improved her career record to five wins, three second and two thirds from 12 starts. Before her win in the La Brea, she chased home champion Dubai Majesty in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint while nearly defeating Horse of the Year Zenyatta in the G1 Lady’s Secret four starts ago. She now has to be considered the top sprinting filly in the country.
Bred by Calumet Farm in Kentucky, Switch is out of G3 winner Antoniette, whose three other foals to race have all won, including the listed winner Keystone Gulch. This is also the family of Darley stallion Elusive Quality.
Quiet American’s other G1 winners include Cara Rafaela, dam of champion Bernardini and classic winner and champion Real Quiet. He has sired a total of 107 career stakes performers.
