Sentiero Italia sails in G2 Lake Placid Stakes

Golden Saratoga meet for Medaglia d'Oro

Medaglia d'Oro continues to shine at the 2015 Saratoga meet, adding a 12th winner to the roster August 14 as daughter Sentiero Italia stole the show in the G2 Lake Placid Stakes. The filly became the 13th 2015 Graded or Group winner in what has already been an outstanding year for the sire.

In the one-and-one-eighth-mile turf race Sentiero Italia patiently traveled two-and-one-half-lengths off the pace along the backstretch. Turning for home the filly swung four-wide, making her bid in the final furlong before clearing away in the final strides to prove best.

Out of the winning Cadeaux Genereux mare Golden Way, the three-year-old filly is a half-sister to G1 Citation Handicap and multiple Graded Stakes winner Ashkal Way. The filly was bred by Darley.

Medaglia d'Oro currently ranks at the top of the North American sire list with 19 2015 Stakes winners. These runners include Graded Stakes winners Mshawish, Gold Medal Dancer, and Vancouver in Australia. Other Saratoga highlights for the sire include G2 Lake George winner Mrs McDougal and impressive Caress Stakes winner Thieves Gold. The sire's most noteworthy daughter is certainly Horse Of The Year Rachel Alexandra, whose two-year-old Bernardini">Bernardini filly Rachel's Valentina recently posted a fantastic debut win at Saratoga.
